Frequently asked questions
- What format is the exam?
- It is a CBT exam: you sit it on a computer at a test centre, and sittings are held throughout the year. You get 70 minutes, and each question has 3 options.
- What score do I need to pass?
- You need 163 points or more out of 250 — an accuracy of 65%.
- How much is the exam fee?
- 14,000 yen, including tax.
- Is there a Japanese-language requirement?
- The skills exam itself is written only in Japanese. On top of that, you must also pass JLPT N3 or above.
- How do I apply?
- You apply through the company you work for — candidates cannot book a seat on their own. Dates and venues are listed on the Prometric page in the official links below.
- Where can I study?
- OTAFF and the JF Association both publish study texts. TokuPass questions are originals we wrote ourselves based on those materials; they are not reproductions of the real exam.
